LEICA M9-P...Loving the Vintage Look!

A new dimension in Digital Photography!

The M9 now has a twin sister, the new Leica M9-P. In technological terms, they are absolutely identical twins and feature precisely the same high performance qualities. The only differences are found in a few characteristic details.

The compact size of Leica M cameras, their unobtrusive looks, minimalist design, and the almost inaudible sound of their shutters make it possible for Leica M photographers to virtually melt into the background. The M9-P now makes photography even more unobtrusive - instead of the red dot on the front, it now bears a restrained Leica logogram on the top deck. And, in turn, is even more discreet.

The Leica M9-P is optionally available in the classical Leica silver chrome camera finish or in black paint - the M9 offers two options, elegant steel gray or black paint. The Leica M9-P also features vulcanite leathering with particularly good grip characteristics.

Tangerine Tango is the color of 2012!

Orange you glad Tangerine Tango is the color of 2012?

Tangerine Tango, an electric orange red, is the color of 2012, according to the Pantone Color Institute, and I for one am extremely excited about the news. It’s warm, uplifting, and energizing, and it happens to look great with almost every skin tone. The vibrant shade has already made its way onto fashion designers’ radars and surely there will be even more examples to come, as Pantone’s predictions influence all manner of consumer product manufacturers from cosmetic companies to paint suppliers.

Each year the Pantone Color Institute forecasts the color for the year ahead and the due diligence is intense. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Institute who spearheads the project, notes Pantone experts scour the world and consider what’s percolating in every possible industry. They also put Eiseman’s background in psychology to good use. “There’s a lot of homework that goes into it. But it’s also, what is it that people are needing? There are a lot of concerns out there and serious issues we are facing. Color, from a psychological standpoint, can be uplifting. We arrived at this particular orange because it’s hopeful and optimistic and also has sophistication.”

Capturing Couture Custom Camera Strap Review

A Review by Mark Stagi, from Digital Photo Buzz

The photography field today is so much different than it was 10 or 20 years ago. Awhile back there were very few options for photographers, you only had a few options for album creation, only a few labs with few options for printing and your gear was pretty plain and simple. If you were shooting 35mm it was just a choice between Nikon and Canon but some basic lenses. Fast forward a few years and there are hundreds of album options, many labs all with unique products like printing on metal and lots of ways to customize your gear.
In a day where we all want to be unique and different there are some cool options to customize our gear. A little while back I was contacted by capturing couture a company who makes custom camera straps. They sent me over a strap to check out and I have to say I was pretty impressed with the quality. Here is a quick review of the Capturing couture camera strap.
First let me remind everyone how important it is to have great packaging. When we are delivering our prints to our customers we should present the images to them in a unique way. I’ll cover some tips on presentation soon but just was reminded of that when opening up the package from Capturing Couture. It was packaged in a nice black box with black and pink tool wrapped as a bow and inside a nice black and white checkered tissue that wrapped the strap.
The strap itself is made very well. The style that I got was the Reaper (not really a fan of the name but it was the most simple style that they had). It’s a 2″ camera strap and has an adjustable length from 30” to 45”.
capturing couture camera strap
The strap seems very durable, I haven’t got a ton of use out of it yet but compared to the thin strap that you get with your camera this looks like it can outperform it no problem. The back of the strap has extra padding around the area where your neck is so does add some extra comfort while wearing it. The padding is velvet so has a good feel to it. All of the buttons and fasteners are very sturdy. Overall it’s a great quality strap and they have tons of designs available. Almost no matter what your style you will find something you like from styles such as Hibiscus, Bungalo and Animal prints there are styles for everyone.

Annie Leibovitz ♥’s Her iPhone Camera

Annie Leibovitz ♥’s Her iPhone Camera

We recently noticed a story about professional photographers who are choosing to go with smaller cameras and smartphones for their photography because it makes the process simpler and more discreet. Add to that list one more noted photographer: Annie Leibovitz.
Leibovitz recently told NBC’s Brian Williams that her favorite “snapshot” camera these days is Apple’s iPhone. The reason?
“It’s so accessible and easy,” Leibovitz told Williams.
Meanwhile, the New York Times just posted this story about accessories to turn your smartphone into “a semi-pro camera.” (Whatever that means.)
Watch the interview with Leibovitz below and tell us in the comments what you think about the whole “smartphone photography” phenomenon.
Just a fad or does it have the makings of a major move away from big digital SLRs to compacts as the tool of choice?

Southwestern Style

When describing a noteworthy runway collection, the old truth about how the whole is greater than the sum of its parts sometimes comes to mind. Taken alone, a silhouette, color, or accessory choice might not be revolutionary, but when considered as part of an entire look and a complete collection, it adds up to something memorable. We tend to think of the Southwest in the same way, meaning that there are numerous elements that contribute to the region's allure and make it a consistently intriguing locale. Its talented artisans, Pueblo and Navajo textiles, and tawny desert landscapes all contribute to its charm, so it's no wonder why we—and noteworthy designers—find it inspirational. Using this stunning region as our jumping off point, we continue to celebrate our Limited Edition SLR Camera Straps, our Navajo Collection in 3 amazing color choices!

Versace H & M Collection!

SNEAK PEAK – The Versace H & M Collection!

Versace’s collaboration with H&M is set to launch November 19, and we have exclusive pics of what to expect from the highly anticipated collaboration. The Versace x H&M features iconic pieces from the 80s that pay homage to the Italian fashion giant’s late founder, Gianni Versace, and the brand’s dynamic legacy. In a promotional video for the line Donatella Versace explains:
“For me this is an opportunity to show to a very very big audience what Versace has been and what Versace is now.
As a designer I look at the future–I never look at the past, but being the sister of Gianni, the DNA is Versace and I’m going to use iconic Versace pieces of iconic Versace moments which are not exactly always the past but also the present.
The amazing discounted line will feature approximately 40 pieces for women, 20 for men including accessories and even home ware with the same floral prints true to the Versace asthetic. Donatella also told Vogue’s Hamish Bowles that the H&M line was ‘the essence of Versace’ and the collection would be comprised of the Italain brand’s ‘greatest hits.’”

Although H&M has collaborated with iconic designers in the past, including Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli and Lanvin, could the Versace collabo be the best?
Check out images of some of the designs from the collaboration, and you be the judge.

Help-Portrait, Join the Cause!

Founded by Celebrity Photographer Jeremy Cowart, Help-Portrait is a community of photographers coming together across the world to use their photography skills to give back to their local community.
In December, photographers around the world will be grabbing their cameras, finding people in need and taking their picture. When the prints are ready, the photographs get delivered.

Yep. It really is that easy.

And by the way, we don’t want to see your photos. This is about GIVING the pictures, not taking them. These portraits are not for your portfolio, website, or for sale. Money isn’t involved here. This holiday season, you have the chance to give a family something they may have never had before—a portrait together.
Our mission? Our mission at Help-Portrait is simply to equip and mobilize you, the photography community. We want to make sure you have all the information that you need to successful participate in Help-Portrait on 10 December 2011. We want to help you find other people in your area that are wanting to be part of Help-Portrait or have already begun to plan the event. We want you to have the opportunity to give.
The best place to connect with other photographers, download important documents, and read up on some useful Help-Portrait planning tips is our COMMUNITY SITE.

Star Gazing Inspiration

We can find so much inspiration in nature and are always amazed when we remember to take a few minutes on a nice clear night and look up to the sky. The large expanse of the universe and glowing stars are so amazing, it’s such a beautiful thing to stare at and soak in. Nightscape photography of the stars can really be a creative thing. When leaving your shutter open for minutes or hours your camera can capture what the human eye can’t see. The colors of the sky and illumination of the stars can create some beautiful photos. Enjoy and be inspired!

Google + vs. Facebook the Social Media War Heats Up

facebook-vs-google

Facebook has been the leader in Social media for quite some time now and Google has made a few attempts in the past to take over. Their past attempts failed but the most recent Google + seems to be taking off and in the photography space is taking shape as a great place for photographers and artists to get together and communicate.
The last few days with the ability on Google + to share circles there have been an overwhelming amount of people following each other and the momentum is picking up for Google +. We are always interested in social media for 2 different aspects...One as a great way to connect with other artists and have good conversations. The other is as a vehicle to keep up with past customers and also attract new ones.

Wondering how many Facebook fans will make their way over to Google + in the very near future?

Frames as Art

We were inspired by these photos of antique gilt frames in a variety of shapes and sizes, loving their dark burnished bronze details – what struck me was how dramatic and chic these looked, without a single photo inside them! Frames themselves when stacked, collaged, and hung can be seen as art… elegant in their simple nature.

Giddy Over a Camera Strap!

A Review of Capturing Couture...Lens Daisy Photography by Aurora Lampson

I have been searching high & low for a camera strap for just over a year now.  I have found a ton of camera strap covers or straps that just did not look very sturdy.  Then one day a good friend of mine mentioned to me Capturing Couture.  I looked them up online and immediately fell in love with their designs.  This camera strap is built to last and not to mention how beautiful they are!  I chose the Hibiscus Moon 1.5” SLR/DSLR Camera Strap.  This strap fits my personality 100%.  The choices of colors and styles are endless.  There is even a male collection and guitar straps!

I wore this strap for a fun street photography outing with a good friend around Downtown Reno one night.  I carried my Canon 7D with a Canon EF 50mm f / 1.2L USM and changed it out to my Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM.  I had no problems with the strap digging into my neck.  We all know how heavy our cameras can get!

The neck pad with a plush velvet surface is a definite plus!  No more annoying strap rubbing and digging into your neck while carrying a heavy DSLR.

Size Dimensions:
  • Decorative: 1.5” wide X 30” long nylon webbing
  • Connection:  3/8” wide X 14” long nylon webbing
  • Total Length:  30” fixed length long with 6-8” additional adjustability
The strap can even be worn comfortably across your body.

FEATURES:
  • Comfortable neckpad with plush velvet surface.
  • Customized metal logo rivets.
  • Nylon webbing for ultimate durability.
  • Adjustable features for preferred positioning

CR Couture Studio, Australia

A introduction to how CR Couture Studio came about...by Caroline Ross

Last year while bouncing around blog land...I came across this blog, http://www.kellehampton.com/ an amazing mother and photographer.  Kellie had such raw genuineness about her it made me want to read her entire blog.. of which I am stoked, because I found out she too was also a keen photographer and had some fantastic photos up and then I SAW IT!!

The most GORGEOUS DIVINE object of desire that I had seen for a long time - a FASHION CAMERA STRAP!!  I had to have it...It was so me!  I had to have it for my new Nikon D90 my husband had recently
purchased for me...

After a bit of investigating I found out that it was a Capturing Couture Camera strap from the USA, which were invented by two very clever women and mothers themselves.  The gorgeous object of my affection was just one of many that they had available in varying styles for both women and men, for both DSLR’s and point and shoot digital cameras.

The gorgeous Hot Pink Organza Camera Strap was the first that I bought, I went on to personally buy a Sophia Black, Sophia Pink, a Black Organza Point and Shoot and a Sophia Camera BagYou just can’t stop at one...the styles and designs are perfect for accessorizing your outfits for those special occasions.

In August 2010 CR Couture Studio became the distributor in Australia for Capturing Couture and has been successful retailing online and at specialized markets in WA

CR Couture Studio looks forward to the business growing and eventually distributing into stores across Australia.

Vintage Photography meets Old School Glamour

Spring 2012 NY Fashion Week

For Spring 2012, the universal theme on the runway that stood out most was COLOR!  Clearly, designers have determined that color is the key to women's hearts and wallets!

The fashion world is urging fashion fans to cheer up and chase the blues away. Light, bright and breezy were the themes of the week as designers displayed their Spring 2012 collections on the catwalks of New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, which began Sept. 8 and ended Thursday. The semiannual event featured almost 300 collections in runway shows and presentations around New York City, including the special Fashion Week tents at Lincoln Center.
Shades of orange -- from coral to pumpkin -- battled for prominence with purple, hot pink, turquoise and mint. While some designers went for pale, most went for bold, with some designers even opting for neon shades.

A Fabulous Review of Capturing Couture by Hush Mama

I was so excited to receive the little black box from Capturing Couture and take out my beautiful Sophia Black 2” Camera Strap from the Tapestry Collection. It was presented nicely enough that I could have given it as a gift without having to change anything.  And what a gift these straps would make for anyone who loves to accessorize!
It is made from lush, high quality and gorgeous materials.  It matches my personal style perfectly…so, yes…I LOVE it.  With options like, Boho, Artisan, Tropical, Silks, Tapestry and Organza Collections it would be easy to find the perfect match for your taste.  Or several matches! These straps are for anyone with a camera and there is even a line of masculine designs.
I cannot deny that Capturing Couture camera straps make the “ultimate fashion statement” but the quality and functionality are even more impressive.
This strap seems exceptionally durable and strong enough for me to feel safe using it with my heavy DSLR.  It has metal findings and attaches to the camera traditionally and securely.  The part that goes around your neck is padded and velvet lined…what a luxury!  If you’ve ever lugged around a beast of a camera then you will really appreciate the extra care taken to ensure your comfort.
I think I need one for every outfit!

Ben Eckles plans world record-breaking photo shoot

Ben Eckles received a Guinness Book of World Records as a gift when he was nine years old. He recalls spending hours thoroughly studying the book's various achievements, imagining how he could one day shatter a world record. Instead of aspiring to scarf down an unprecedented amount of doughnuts or embark on a sailing expedition across the seven seas, he decided to tap into his passion for photography.
Eckles, owner of Couture Photography, is planning to hold a world record-breaking photo shoot on Oct. 2 near the Folly Beach pier. He's summoning roughly 200 former brides to lace back up for the shoot, a quirky style of post-wedding photography known as fearless bridal photography, or "trash the dress" photography, which captures the bride in a unique setting that might damage her gown. The goal isn't to convey negative notions toward marriage, as some may think; rather, the movement celebrates monogamy with a modern twist.
"This will give them a chance to get back out in their dress and get some fun, creative shots," says Eckles, who hopes to capture participants' dynamic expressions while charging into the ocean in their cherished gowns. Eckles also plans to hold group and individual photo sessions with participants' friends and family.
Kristen Erickson, married last October in Georgia, says fearless bride photography is gaining popularity and captivating younger brides' interest. "If I wanted to get it cleaned, I could," says the 25-year-old, referring to her strapless, mermaid-style dress. "It's not like I'm planning on ripping it up and setting it on fire."
Erickson, accompanied by her recently married friends, says she's more than willing to hop back in her dress for the one-of-a-kind occasion. "I'll do whatever he wants," she says, referring to Eckles, who's shot numerous participants' weddings, including Erickson's. "I'm really amazed at his work — it keeps getting better and better."
Redefining traditional Southern wedding photography, Eckles' style emphasizes tightly framed perspectives, intimately capturing details, from the bride's elaborate footwear to her ecstatic facial expressions. "That's one of the things my mom passed down to me," says Eckles. "I'm very into focusing in on things and capturing the detail of expressions." In addition to his technical expertise, Eckles' success stems from his gift for lightening the mood. "I like to try and have a good time and make them laugh," he says.
Summer Tate, recently married in her home state of Texas, signed up for the event following her wedding ceremony, which Eckles shot. "You can kind of take it to the level you want to," says Tate, referring to brides' participatory discretion in the event. "It'll be a fun way to not completely trash it, but to do something fun with it." Tate's wedding dress, a strapless ball gown elegantly draped with lace overlay and elaborate flower stitching, carries sentimental value for the 27-year-old; however, she says she's willing to flaunt the ivory-colored gown once more for fun. "Our generation is kind of open to it," she says. "Our parents' generations tend to think it's a horrible idea. You really don't need the dress anymore after you use it, though, and this event symbolizes that."
Eckles credits an early fearless bridal shoot, in which the bride posed in a swamp, for spurring his interest. "That's when I realized I liked doing creative shots," he says. He sold a majority of his possessions to be able to buy state-of-the-art photography equipment and steadily expanded his customer base. Now, he hopes to exceed the Netherlands' current fearless bride world record — consisting of 150 photographed participants — in the U.S.'s premier wedding destination. "I really wanted to have it in Charleston," says Eckles. "It'll definitely bring the Holy City some exposure."
In order to secure the event, Eckles plans to appear before Folly Beach City Council to weed out any potential issues. Folly Beach City Councilman D.J. Rich says he's eager to hear the photographer's proposal. "It sounds like a great idea," says Rich. "I can't wait to hear what he has planned."
Eckles is preparing by carefully considering vantage points and natural variables, including sun angle and tides, but ultimately he views the event as an opportunity to capture fun, creative shots. "I want to turn this into something fun — something really big, but really simple," says Eckles, hinting at a potential oceanside cake fight.
Eckles says he hopes the event stokes record-breaking ambitions for future generations. "This could be inspirational," he says. "To do something that's significant to you and that you're talented at."
Registration is required before Sept. 30 for participants and onlookers and is not limited to currently married individuals. To register, visit shotbycouture.com.

One man's tireless pursuit of glamour on streets of New York!

If you're not a reader of The New York Times, you may never have heard of Bill Cunningham, but in a certain world - high couture, low couture, the Manhattan social scene - he is, as someone says in the documentary Bill Cunningham New York, "the most important man on Earth."
You wouldn't know it to see him. Dressed in a royal blue smock - the kind street sweepers wear in Paris - and riding his old Schwinn bicycle (his 29th; the previous 28 were stolen) through New York traffic, Cunningham is an unprepossessing figure. A youthful 82, he stands on street corners taking pictures of interesting fashions, photos for his On The Street column in the Times' Style section. At night, he attends swanky parties to capture the life of the in-crowd for his Evening Hours column.
He's not a paparazzo - he has no interest in celebrities, and in fact doesn't recognize most of them because he rarely goes to movies and has no TV set - but he is fascinated by what women wear. He is a cultural anthropologist, capturing trends at the cutting edge, when they are still street styles that haven't yet migrated to the fashion runways: bare shoulders, low pants, the preppy look, shirt tails, denim dresses, all were spotted by Cunningham before they surfaced in the popular imagination.
Like the subject himself, Bill Cunningham New York was made on the run, a seat-of-the-pants film about a notoriously private man whose own fashions stand in amusing contrast to the world he documents. He's a cheapskate - he wears a plastic poncho in the rain and repairs it with tape when it rips - who lives in a tiny apartment in Carnegie Hall, from which he is about to be evicted. (The Carnegie apartments are a fascinating sidebar; once rented as studios to people like Marlon Brando and Leonard Bernstein, they are being reclaimed as offices.)
Cunningham's rooms are filled with filing cabinets of photographic negatives and he sleeps on a small platform on the floor. The bathroom is down the hall.
There is no kitchen: Cunningham eats out - cheaply - for every meal. Nevertheless he is an icon in the world of high style.
"We all dress for Bill," says Anna Wintour, legendary editor of Vogue.
He's a friend to a host of fashionable eccentrics - like the memorable dandy Patrick McDonald, a sort of Beau Brummel with painted-on eyebrows - as well as old-money aristocrat Brooke Astor, whose 100th birthday party we drop in on.
Through it all, Cunningham is a voice of modest and cheerful enthusiasm, waiting on the corner for glimpses of everyday glamour ("The best fashion show is definitely on the street. Always has been. Always will be") and painstakingly overseeing a Times editor who lays out his weekly column of photos while Cunningham fusses beside him.
In a cutthroat world, he remains a figure of infinite kindness: many years ago he quit Women's Wear Daily because its editors changed one of his stories to make it seem that he was making fun of what ordinary people were wearing. He is so ethical that he won't take any food at the fancy dinners he covers. "I eat with my eyes," he says.
The movie gives the impression that director Richard Press is racing to keep up with Cunningham as he bikes around the city - and later makes his way around Paris for the annual designer shows - and drops in on several offbeat friends, notably 90-something photographer Editta Sherman, who also lives at Carnegie Hall and asks the camera crew, "How come you're not doing something on me?"
The home-movie esthetic of Bill Cunningham New York mimics the subject's philosophy of maintaining a respectful distance.
This is broken only once, near the end, when Press gets personal and Cunningham reveals how much of his personal life he has sacrificed for the work he loves.
He's a man in lonely pursuit of fashion, what he calls the armour that lets us survive everyday life.
"He who seeks beauty will find it," he says, and he discovers it on every corner.

Capturing Couture Has Captured This California Girl’s Eye!

* A Product Review by Cali Travel Girl *
I can’t believe that I’m just discovering Capturing Couture! Erika & Lisa, two working (and creative) moms, make the most beautiful camera straps I have ever seen and with the velvet neck pad it’s also very comfortable. From the many, many designs to choose from it’s the Tropical Collection that caught this California girl’s eye. They sent me the Hibiscus Ocean SLR camera strap and I’ve been sporting it on all of my recent travels! Here are some of my thoughts about it so far:
  • I bought the Alicia Black 1.5” SLR/DSLR Camera Strap from the Boho collection last month and have been wearing it all over town! Yet I was looking for something that reminded me of the beach and had a casual but cool look and that’s where their Tropical collection comes in!
  • Be prepared to get asked by fellow SLR camera women where on Earth you got it, because they will notice and they will hunt you down. Lol!
  • I have spent so much money on my Nikon DSLR, lenses and camera bags that this was the finishing touch in personalizing my gear. It really speaks to your personality and what type of photographer you are when you’re wearing something so different.
  • The company has a 1 year guarantee! They stand by the the quality of their straps so if something goes wrong with it, then let them know so they can try to fix it.
  • These make GREAT gifts! I’ve got a few of the straps in mind for birthday and Christmas gifts, and they come already wrapped in a box with tissue paper and a gaze bow!
I’m not sure how I’m going to keep these straps clean and that’s really my only concern. Other than that I am impressed with how comfortable and durable it feels along with how gorgeous they look. Comfortable, durable and California styly’n is how I would summarize the Tropical Collection :) . So check it out and post photos of the strap you got here! See ya at the beach Travelers!

Camera Ready Style
Most camera straps are boring, utilitarian devices that do the job they were designed to do but they’re not expressive or inspirational. Longtime friends Lisa Grim and Erika Koorndyk saw an opportunity to change that.
Lisa has a background in fashion, and Erika is never without a camera. Together they’ve designed a range of beautiful and comfortable straps to replace the basic black straps that are bundled with most cameras. Made in the U.S., the long straps are geared for SLR/DSLR cameras, and the wristlets are made for compact, point-and-shoot cameras.
Capturing Couture straps cover all the functional details: nylon webbing for durability, a comfortable velvet neck pad, adjustable length, and a quick release system (wristlet). And the styles? Let’s just say it’s hard to choose only one. From the beachy vibe of Hibiscus Ocean and the plush jacquard Rose Baroque to the feminine floral Red Organza and masculine plaid Joey Tan… the styles are chic, vibrant and timeless. They make it very easy to smile for the camera.
